Art Street
Pitchupillai Street ( near Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan ) turns into an art market where fine arts students showcase their works - paintings, textiles, cards, craftworks and more. . . . .You can get stuff for as low as ten rupees. And also get your portrait done in ten minutes!
Crafts Bazaar
Women members of Self Help Groups in the city set up shop alongside the temple tank (west side of temple) and sell their products. Toys, crafts, utility stuff and more. Easy buys.
Food Fest
If all goes well, the food stalls will be set up on Sundareswarar Street from 6 pm every day of the fest. Kanchipuram iddli, Pesarettu, Adai and Aviyal, Paper Masala . . . . . Early birds get the best here. The cooks promise to introduce a few more Tamil Nadu specials.
Thamizh Books Sale
Stalls along side the temple tank ( west gopuram side) will display and sell at special prizes a range of books - fiction, non-fiction, reference and childrens books. On all days.
Kutcheris In The Park
Every day begins with classical music kutcheris in Nageswara Rao Park, Luz. Performed by teens and youths, mikes are not used at all. Great music for the walkers and weight watchers who swarm the park as early as 5 am. Starts at 6.30 am. One hour daily. Chess Square.
Workshops For Kids
Every evening, from 4.45 pm, for an hour, a workshop will be held at Nageswara Rao Park (Chess Square area) for children ( juniors). Every day will host a different art / craft / skill. Await details soon. Free admission.
Park Performances
Every evening, artistes will take centre stage at the park. Different performances, mostly folk music and dance, are held at 6.30 pm. Chess Square area. Open to all.
Film-making Workshop
FilmCamp.TV is an organization that focuses on teaching, producing and screening new Indian cinema. As part of the teaching initiative, FilmCamp.TV conducts one-day workshops called '1:1 Filmmaking Workshop'. At these workshops, complete novices organized in groups, make one-minute films.
This is a unique filmmaking workshop in that participants collaboratively write scripts, storyboard it, shoot it (using cameras provided) and edit their films (using Mac computers also provided). The workshop is entirely hands-on for participants. Every stage of production is overseen by instructors.
FilmCamp.TV has successfully conducted 7 such workshops in Bangalore, Chennai and Mysore in the last two months. Now, Film Camp in association with the Mylapore Festival, is hosting a workshop on Jan 5 at Mylapore's Nageswara Rao Park.
Venue: Mylapore, Nageshwar Rao Park Date: Saturday, 5th January: 8.00 am to 8.00 pm Requirements: Open to ages 12 and above. Bring book, pen and bottle of water. All equipment provided. No food provided.
